DIRECTOR AND PRINCIPAL CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST BSC DCLIN PSY
Prior to us becoming clinical psychologists we met each other while working in the field of research with other academics in the top of their field. We were both passionate about understanding interpersonal and societal wellbeing, and through rigorous study and analysis, we enjoyed producing research evidence that could be applied in a useful way to people’s lives. Looking back on this time we are grateful we were in a field that nurtured our ability to be innovative. For example, taking a big idea or question and breaking it down so it is meaningful and accessible for a public health message, or for an individual going through a difficult time. We developed skills that are relevant to our clinical work today through publishing papers in peer review journals, speaking at international conferences and working on a campaign voted as one of the top 20 public health achievements of the 21st century.
We feel a great amount of nostalgia for the years we spent in research. We also have a shared and resounding clarity to what led us to taking the step to working clinically with people. It is simply this: we are both naturally curious; we commit ourselves to lifelong learning; and have a passion to use our personal and professional skills to build relationships in working directly with individuals, couples and families. Through doing this we hope we can continue to help people enrich their lives.

After completing a Masters and Doctorates in Clinical Psychology at Kings College London, the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and the University of Plymouth, we by chance both began working as Senior and Principal Clinical Psychologists in the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. It was in these roles that our friendship really cemented as we supported each other professionally and personally and witnessed how each other worked. Taking our combined experience we started EMANCO Practice, Chelsea in order to build a psychology service with a difference. We wanted to take a personalised approach to wellbeing and offer people with busy lives a high quality, seamless service, to take as much effort and stress away from accessing therapy, and take well deserved time for themselves.

With our shared vision, mutual respect for each other’s clinical and research experience, alongside a friendship, it made sense for the practice to be called EMANCO. This is our initials as we are at the core and drive for why we want to offer a personalised and bespoke therapy service.

HOW WE WORK
